Volunteer at the National Yiddish Book CenterThere are two ways you can volunteer at the Center: as a docent, greeting and guiding visitors at our Amherst headquarters, or as a zamler, helping to round up Yiddish and other Jewish books in your own community.
DocentsFriendly, outgoing individuals are needed to greet our visitors and tell them what to see and do while visiting the Yiddish Book Center. Knowledge of Yiddish is not required, but a love for the culture is. We'll teach you everything else you need to know. If you live in western New England, can spare at least three hours a week, and can make an ongoing commitment, please contact Jane Gronau at visit@bikher.org.
ZamlersWe're always looking for zamlers: volunteers who can help us collect Yiddish books in neighborhoods and communities throughout the United States and Canada. Prerequisites include a strong back (strong enough to lift 30-pound boxes of books), a car, and a friendly manner. Knowledge of Yiddish helps, but is not required. To find out more, please contact our Zamler Coordinator, Catherine Madsen, at bookdonations@bikher.org |
